A bit about Us

Welcome to the Homestead!

Named after the passed down family brand, a broken heart.  We are humble little operation nestled in the hills of Potomac, MT.  Run by myself (Chahoristah), my mother (Tamara) and heavy lifting support from my husband (Beau).

We grew up in the Evaro/Arlee area.  Beau and I are high school sweethearts, graduated together in 2011, and married in 2013.  Beau spent four years in the USMC, where we were based on Camp Pendelton in Southern CA.  Upon returning to our home state in 2016 we purchased our first home on two little acres.  I was intent on getting back into livestock and ecstatic to be starting our homesteading journey!

Since then, our sable dairy goat herd now supply us with fabulous raw milk.  Laying hens provide us with a healthy supply of fresh eggs.  We collaborate with a great friend and neighbor on raising/processing rabbit, chicken, turkey, lamb, pork and we’ve begun purchasing locally grown beef.  Some years we find the time to hunt and put venison in the freezer as well.  What an amazing feeling it is to be producing/locally sourcing all our meat and what a goal we have accomplished!  I have been playing around with sour dough and we have been enjoying all the fresh bread/ baked goods.  Our next objective towards raising our own food will be building a garden, we are so looking forward to the start of that venture.  I do believe that is the short and sweet of what we have going on around here.  One of the biggest blessings along the way is our wonderful dairy herd.

The goats started out very few in numbers only wanting to provide our own milk.  After the purchase of our first Sable doe, Ko Ko in 2018, I fell head over heels for this sweet, hardy, productive gal and she lit a fire in me to start raising this lesser common, amazing breed.  We now also have 'grade/experimental' goats in the herd, still breeding up to Sable. Like I stated before, we are a humble little operation.  How sweet it is to look back and see how far we’ve come; I can’t wait to see what is yet in store!  My objective with this herd is to produce hardy, quality, productive animals.  Whether you need your own homestead milker, one to take to the show ring, or big pack boys, please don't hesitate to reach out, see if we have what you are looking for.  I look forward to chatting with you!

You can also keep up to date with the happenings on our FB page @BrokenHeart Homestead.  Admittedly, I'm only good at keeping that up to date in kidding season.

BROKENHEART'S ROYAL
Cali/Flemish doe

Californian & Flemish Giant Rabbits

We have a very small rabbitry consisting of a couple Californian does, a Californian buck, & a Flemish Giant buck.

Our stock are not registered but of nice quality.  We personally like to cross these two breeds, the Cali brings down the bone mass in the Flemish, the Flemish promotes more size in the Cali...

It is very tough to find these guys around MT, or at least that has been our experience.  We have kits sporadically through the year.

If you are looking for kits to start your own rabbitry reach out to see what we might have available for you!

Text or Email is preferred, even if it is to set up a phone call.  I have incredibly limited service that does not reach to the barn/barn yard where I inevitably spend much of my time, especially in kidding season. Please provide your name, inquiry and I will be in touch ASAP! Your time and business are appreciated and important to us!

Thank you!!
