Herd Health
& Maintenance

We provide all the animals with ethical care in all that we do.
Everyone is closely observed/monitored.
If/when something comes up, we treat as naturally as possible and use conventional care as necessary. We love all the critters we have here on the homestead. Their health, care and quality of life is our forefront priority.

Disease Testing:
The whole herd was tested for CAE & Brucellosis, all testing negative February 5, 2024.
This was our first year of testing and will be an annual practice.
We do not blood test for CL due to the lack of reliability of serological testing.
Should an abscess form, the animal will be quarantined, and abscess tested immediately.
We have no history of abscesses.

All goats have 24/7 access to the following:
Fresh water
I used to clean troughs weekly, I now keep goldfish in troughs allowing cleanings to be less frequent.
Second cutting alfalfa hay
We are currently bulk feeding large 6 strand bales. Allowing free access keeps healthy rumens and allows my lower ranking does within the herd to have every opportunity to ample feed keeping up on everyone's body condoning.
Minerals:
Payback brand loose mineral formulated for MT
Vitalix
Redmond Rock on a Rope
We trade out trace mineral block/cobalt blocks throughout the season.
Supplemental zinc as needed.

Milk stand ration:
Payback Brand Lactation Pellets
Alfalfa pellets
Omegas
BOSS
Zinc
This is the variety of what I offer does while milking on the stand. Ration and ratio vary from doe to doe based on their body condition, where they are in their lactation, and overall needs.

Copper Bolus
As a general rule everyone usually receives an annual copper bolus, I do look at everyone on a case-to-case basis and dose accordingly.
